Online surgeries

Want to talk to someone about your community group, project or idea?

Introducing . . . Birmingham Community Matters surgeries online!

In response to the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis and the need for physical distancing, we are holding online surgeries (you can read this as ‘in-depth chats’) for small community groups in Birmingham.

You can work through a challenge or idea with one of our Community Matters Helpers – people who have experience of doing similar things.

We are holding these surgeries via face-to-face online chats (we can help you set this up if needed).

We’re generally arranging them on weekdays between 9am and 5pm but we will be even more flexible if this helps you.

It goes without saying that other family members (including children and pets) are welcome to pop up – this is all informal and relaxed. You can also come back for another surgery when you’re ready.

When we ran our first online surgery the person we helped said afterwards about the problem she’d come to solve:
“I feel refreshed. I feel energised to look at this again with fresh eyes.”

How to book a surgery

Contact us via email with a brief overview of your group, project and idea, and the questions or challenges you’d like to talk through. Include your phone number, please, so we can call you for a ‘diagnostic’ chat. We will match you with a Helper for your surgery within a couple of days, at a mutually convenient time.

How we can help

As well as answering general questions about your community group, we can help with matters concerning your group’s response to COVID-19. Perhaps you need support with applying for funding (such as the Heart of England Coronavirus Resilience Fund), or maybe you’re experiencing logistical challenges because of the need for social distancing.

We can also offer individual support – maybe signposting you towards ways to help your community, or assist vulnerable people.
